A presentation-tasting of Bolnisian wines was held under the organization of “Gvino Bolnisi” union of winemakers and with the support of RMG.
At the presentation-tasting, the 29 best wines of 16 Bolnisi wineries were evaluated by the Georgian Wine Guild according to the international OIV standard, and technologists, representatives of the hospitality sector and industry experts were invited to Bolnisi to taste them.
Among the guests was the German ambassador, Hubert Knirsch, within the framework of “Bolnisi – The Town of Golden Wine, Discover Bolnisi Wine”, he visited the Bolnisi museum and the old German house purchased by RMG within the framework of the Bolnisi winemaking support program. The ambassador emphasized the importance of creating a Georgian-German wine house in the development of the region. The guests tasted the traditional dishes of Kvemo Kartli prepared by Misha Avsajanishvili, the chef specially invited for this day. At the end of the day, they visited the monastery of the fathers on Mount Elias and tasted the wine “Zedashe” pressed by the monks.
“Bolnisi – the town of golden wine, is the most important event for local winemakers. This is the event of the century, because no one has talked about Bolnisi wine for 400 years, and today Bolnisi winemaking has reached the level that it is necessary to introduce these wines to the general public, and this event serves just that,” said Guram Avkofashvili, the founder of Bolnisi Wines.
RMG has been supporting Bolnisi winemakers for several years and has been promoting their development. I think that with our new project, we are moving to a new stage of cooperation. We bought an old German house, where a Georgian-German wine house will be built. In this new space Bolnisa winemakers will have the opportunity to present the best wines and offer them to customers. The house, in turn, will contribute to the development of local tourism, will help winemakers to sell wine and export it to Germany in the future” – noted RMG Corporate Director, Kakhaber Mchedlishvili.
The union of winemakers “Gvino Bolnisi” was formed in 2018 and unites up to 35 small family wineries. The goal of Bolnisi winemakers is to restore the tradition of making wine in kvevri according to the old Georgian method in Bolnisi.
Many interesting and useful projects were implemented as a result of the memorandum of cooperation signed between the union, RMG and Bolnisi municipality. RMG promotes the unification of winemakers, the production of the best Bolnisian wines and their promotion. As a result of cooperation, Bolnisi wineries systematically participate in local and international exhibition-competitions. They undergo various educational courses and seminars in order to offer consumers the best wines of the highest quality.
