On 29th of April RMG hosted the members of Georgia’s and World Mining Science Academies.

Grigol Tsulukidze Mining Institute was hosting the Mining Sciences and World Academy Highest Council Sessions on April 27-30. The presidium members of field’s World and Georgian Academy were attending these meetings. Within the week, the guests also visited RMG’s enterprise.

The work of the World Mining Sciences Academy aims at sharing geology-related best practice experience in the mining industry and searching for solutions for complex and challenging projects.

World Mining Sciences Academy has just recently been established and it unites mining scientists from different countries; the first visit of the Academy representatives was held in Tbilisi, Georgia.
Our country has a long history of mining technologies and science, and therefore within this broader initiative, the Mining Sciences Academy of Georgia has also been established. At the elections, run with the council format, the academy was grouped by the leading mining scientists of the country.” – Nikoloz Chikhradze, President of the Mining Sciences Academy of Georgia.

RMG’s Executive Director, Joni Shubitidze introduced the information about the Kvemo Kartli region, ore deposit specifics, organizational approach, and future plans of the company to the guests, followed by the field/site visit.

“It was very pleasant and, at the same time, unexpected news for me when I heard about the creation of such a council. It is truly an important event not only for our enterprise but also for the entire heavy industry of Georgia, in general. I was glad when the members of the Academy expressed their desire to visit the production site and witnessed how the processes are managed at out enterprise, what new technologies are introduced, and visited the renovated copper enrichment plant and the modern underground deposit of Bektakari.
This newly created academy will be a new driving force for all institutions involved in mining-geological activities to unite and exchange ideas and experiences, share practices, advice and consultations around the technological, production, geological and scientific aspects.” – Joni Shubitidze, Executive Director.

RMG’s Copper Enrichment Plant, which has been processing ores in the Bolnisi region since 1975, has been renovated within the infrastructural modernization project in 2022 and launched in Q1 of 2023, while Bektakari mine is a mining project executed with all modern technologies, and serving as an underground mine.

During the visit, RMG’s Executive Director was awarded the Certificate of Georgian Mining Science Academy Honorable Member.
