Representatives from RMG’s Geotechnical Department recently participated in the Mine Monitoring 4th Regional Workshop, held in Seville, Spain, from October 15–17. The event was organized by IDS GeoRadar (Hexagon Member) and TRE ALTAMIRA, bringing together global experts to discuss the latest innovations and practices in geotechnical monitoring and slope stability.
The RMG’s team – Keti Benashvili, Miriani Makadze, and Revaz Menabde – attended the workshop upon invitation from the organizers, following RMG Copper’s (under the umbrella of Rich Metals Group) recent integration into the Hexagon Group. This recognition came after the successful installation of a Leica TM60 robotic total station on the Madneuli tailings dam, further enhancing the company’s geotechnical monitoring capabilities.
The three-day program included seminars and a technical field trip. Seminar sessions featured the latest trends in slope stability analysis, innovative monitoring technologies, and real-world applications. Participants – including users, potential clients, and geotechnical consultants – exchanged insights on the use of IDS GeoRadar GBSAR and TRE Altamira satellite monitoring technologies for advanced slope monitoring solutions.
“Being part of the Hexagon group and attending this regional workshop gave us a unique opportunity to share our experience and learn from leading experts in geotechnical monitoring. We gained valuable insights into how advanced monitoring systems are applied worldwide and how these practices can be adapted to improve the safety and efficiency of our own operations.” – Keti Benashvili, Head of Geotechnical Department at RMG.
Workshop participants also visited the historic Rio Tinto Atalaya quarry, which is one of the world’s oldest mining enterprises. Participants observed the modernized production processes and learned directly from on-site geotechnical personnel about the integration of multiple monitoring systems.
Participation in this event allowed RMG’s geotechnical team to engage with a global community of professionals, exchange knowledge, and discuss practical solutions to geotechnical challenges in mining.
