Georgian Songs Competition-Festival “Where is the Other Georgia” Successfully Completed

With RMG’s official sponsorship the project of the Georgian songs contest-festival “Where is the Other Georgia” was successfully concluded with a gala-concert in Marneuli municipality. The contest-festival aims to popularize traditional songs among Georgians and teenagers representing ethnic minorities living in Georgia.

“Where is the Other Georgia” is now in its 8th year. This year’s qualifying stages took place in various regions of Georgia over several months, featuring performances from choirs and solo artists across different folk and pop genres. The performers were evaluated by a jury composed of renowned Georgian musicians.

“The festival has been held in Marneuli since 2016. Initially, only the Kvemo Kartli region participated, but over time we expanded. This year, 17 municipalities participated in the festival. The idea came from a desire to promote Georgian songs, especially among ethnic minorities. We started in Kvemo Kartli, where the majority of ethnic minorities reside.

Our Jury members are famous Georgian composers, singers and musicologists; we hope that our festival will continue for long and involve all regions of the country.” – Maia Jamalashvili, founder and organizer of the festival, Theater University lecturer.

In the individual category, participants performed Georgian pop songs, while the ensemble category featured folklore and Georgian choral works. The folk ensemble “Ialno” from the Akhalsopeli village of the Gardabani municipality was chosen by RMG as its favourite group and was awarded a special gift from the company. The jury awarded the Grand Prix to the ensemble “Artist” from Sachkhere.

“We joined the project this year and are the main sponsors of the festival. It is heartening to see young people and adults passionately singing, developing and refreshing Georgian repertoire and folk works. Promoting informal education for young people is important to us, and we faithfully support such initiatives, especially in the Kvemo Kartli region. I thank the authors and organizers of the project and wish them success in their future activities” – Zurab Devdariani, RMG’s Corporate Social Responsibility Manager.
