Bolnisi Wines at the Merano WineFestival

With the support of RMG, 11 award-winning wines from the Bolnisi PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) Wine Festival, along with the 5 best Bolnisi wines selected by the Georgian-German Wine House, were presented at the Merano WineFestival in Italy.

In the 10th anniversary year of Georgia’s participation in Merano, a dedicated presentation hall for Georgian wines was featured for the first time. Additionally, by decision of the festival organizers, Georgian dishes and wines were served at a gala dinner for 500 guests.

In the Merano Wine Competition, 11 PDO wines submitted by the Bolnisi Wine Festival received high recognition of 4 Gold Medals (Mukhiguli 1770 – Bolnisi Red 2020, Madlieri Mama – Saperavi 2022, Avanduri Winery – Kindzmarauli 2024, Chateau Svanidze – Mukuzani 2015) and 2 Silver Medals (Rachisubani – Bolnisi Red 2024, Japaridze Winery – Saperavi 2023).Wines presented by the Georgian-German Wine House were also highlighted, receiving 3 Silver Medals (Bolnisi Old Cellar – Asuretuli Shala 2022, Villa Kelasuri – Rkatsiteli 2024, Shalo’s Cellar – Saperavi 2020). In total, wines specifically from Bolnisi, earned 7 awards at the festival.

“Through the long-standing partnership between RMG and the Wine Bolnisi Association, numerous initiatives have been carried out to support Bolnisi wine, including participation in international festivals and competitions. This year, with the company’s support, we presented Bolnisi wines at this major event. I believe that participating in events of this scale provides an excellent opportunity to establish direct communication with potential customers in European countries,” – Zurab Devdariani, RMG’s Corporate Social Responsibility Manager.

For three days, guests visiting the Georgian wine presentation and tasting area were introduced to Bolnisi wines by Tamar Chichiboshvili, Georgian Wine Ambassador to Italy, and sommelier Jaba Dzimistarishvili. Within the framework of the festival, the Georgian Wine Ambassador also conducted two masterclasses on Georgia and its unique Qvevri winemaking tradition.

The Merano Wine Festival has been held annually in the Italian city of Merano since 1992. It is one of the most prestigious international wine events and enjoys great popularity in the global wine community. The five-day festival brings together presentations of the world’s finest wines, tastings from various countries, award ceremonies, masterclasses, seminars, and exhibitions showcasing leading international wines and Italian gastronomy. Each year, the festival attracts more than 1,000 winemakers, experts, wine writers, and bloggers from around the world.
