As part of RMG’s student support program, students completed a one-month paid internship in August at RMG’s Summer School.
This year, the Summer School welcomed its seventh cohort of students at the company’s enterprises. For the second year in a row, students from Tbilisi State University joined their peers from the Georgian Technical University in the program.
Out of the 15 candidates selected by a jury after preliminary interviews, 13 were students from the Faculty of Mining and Geology at GTU, while 2 came from the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences at TSU, specializing in geology.
The RMG Summer School is a one-month paid internship program that, since 2018, offers students the chance to gain hands-on experience at the company’s enterprise in Kazreti during the summer holidays.
Within the program, students are assigned to different production units according to their interests, including geology, drilling technologies, mineral processing, mine surveying, geotechnics, and mining technologies. Throughout the internship, they are mentored by the company’s leading specialists.
The RMG Summer School provides students with concentrated, practical experience in a short time, designed to support their future career development.
“During the month I spent at the Summer School, I learned many new things, gained important skills, and had the chance to better understand my own abilities and imagine myself as a geologist – a role that turned out to be very exciting for me. I also made new friends and realized how important cooperation and teamwork are. The days I spent here left strong impressions on me, and I am sure I will never forget this experience full of challenges and new opportunities.”- Salome Gelovani, RMG Summer School participant, 2nd-year student, Faculty of Mining and Geology, Georgian Technical University.
“I first heard about the Summer School from senior students at the university. I was curious about how we would be approached, what we would be taught, and that’s why I applied. Mining is not just about theoretical education – without practice, this profession loses its meaning. During hands-on training, you see the field from a new perspective and can truly assess your abilities and aspirations. I encourage all students who see their future in this profession to take advantage of this opportunity. It is in daily, intensive practice that you should test yourself. This one month is the beginning of your career and will leave you with unforgettable memories.” – Giorgi Meladze, RMG Summer Schoo participantl, 3rd-year student, Faculty of Mining and Geology, Georgian Technical University.
After the one-month internship, a closing event will be held in September, where participating students will present their group projects to RMG management. The Summer School will conclude with a traditional ceremony, including the awarding with certificates and commemorative gifts.
Within the company’s corporate responsibility, RMG prioritizes several UN Sustainable Development Goals, including the goal of Quality Education accessibility. In this regard, the company for the last few years implements various educational initiatives, including the university student support programs executed with the collaboration of different Universities.
