The Minister of Environment Protection familiarized himself with the projects implemented within the framework of the RMG Environmental Program

The Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Otar Shamugia, together with the Chairman of the Parliament’s Environment Protection and Natural Resources Committee Maya Bitadze and the members of the working group studying pollution in the Kvemo Kartli region, got acquainted with the works carried out within the framework of the environmental program of RMG in Kazreti.

Within the framework of regular monitoring, which has been carried out since 2018 with the involvement of the members of the working group under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Environmental Protection Committee, Minister RMG reviewed the environmental projects and the results of the measures specified in the letter.

“With civil society representatives and Together with the members of the environmental protection committee, we visited RMG current works. Although there is still some work to be done, we agree that progress is being made in many directions. One of the main and important directions of our environmental policy is that large enterprises can fulfill the requirements established by the environmental legislation within a reasonable time. These enterprises make a significant contribution to the country’s economy, they employ a lot of people, so their development, so that they do not have a negative impact on the environment, is very important.noted the Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture, Otar Shamugia.

It should be noted that as a result of taking effective steps and complex environmental measures within the framework of the environmental program , the 2021-2022 inspection by the Department of Environmental Supervision did not reveal any violations or deficiencies in RMG Gold LLC . According to company representatives, it is the result of joint efforts of the public sector and community groups.

“On the basis of the Ministry’s letter, the list of environmental measures to be implemented included about 100 projects and mitigating measures, which provide for the protection of water, soil and air. The project implementation process is successfully underway and is already at the completion stage. The proof of this is that during the inspection of RMG Gold this year, no environmental violations were observed. The company continues to implement international environmental standards and implement new environmental projects taking them into account.said the head of RMG administration, Amiran Kartvelishvili.

Within the framework of the visit, the guests visited the historical Madneuli quarry and the water treatment facilities and water holding infrastructure arranged at the bottom of its #4 pit. It is important that the 3 treatment facilities built with the involvement of international experts and the latest technologies will protect the Foladauri, Kazretula and Mashavera rivers from the effluents from the reservoirs or the waters discharged from the enterprise.

“For four years now, we have been monitoring the fulfillment of the company’s environmental obligations in the format of the Sakdrisi Committee parliamentary working group, and today, in a way, we are summing up these four years of work. I want to tell you that we have gone through a rather difficult period, but we have some progress and results. For example, in 2022, as a result of the inspection of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, no environmental violations were detected in the company RMG Gold for the first time in its history, which is promising, although, There are still some questions and gaps in other companies of RMG. We think that step by step, step by step, we will be able to eliminate these shortcomings. There are still many challenges ahead.”noted Nino Burchuladze, a member of the working group studying pollution in the Kvemo Kartli region.

The working group also familiarized itself with the experimental reclamation project, the existing tailings tank and the pumping infrastructure installed at its base, and the anti-dust infrastructure installed in the Sakdrisi area.

At the end of the day, the guests visited the monument of cultural heritage – “Persian bath of Abulmugi”, which was relocated from the production area of RMG in 2021 by the initiative of “Movement for Cultural Heritage” (Sakdrisi Committee).
